So what is the deal here?

According to some (including wizards) protect is a free action and you can do it as much as you want without sacrificing your turn or action. This allows people to fire their weapon then dash across the room to shield 3 or 4 different people all in the span of 1 turn.

According to others (including wizards) using +protect 1 time causes you to sacrifice your next action as a result of that protect.

Seen this cause an OOC fight 2 or 3 times now so it should be set straight.

I don't know, but I think it should heavily depend on the situation, player placement, and RP circumstances.

A Jedi closely escorting his two non-Jedi friends through a hallway would likely not have much trouble parrying multiple blaster bolts to save them.

Gunslinger Joe repeatedly shoving his friends aside out of the way of blaster bolts in the same hallway would be ridiculous. Especially if he's on the other side in RP, blasting away at stormtroopers.

Someone large like a Hutt could conceivably shield all of his friends with his great mass, but that begs the question of how he himself is dodging the hits instead of sacrificially taking damage.

lol!

You must have missed the hospital scene where a Hutt who was supposed to be ICly in shock was protecting someone multiple times per turn yet not taking a scratch.

We are also lacking some standardized rules regarding cover and soft cover. People seem to frequently want to use cover and concealment, so rules on that would be super.

That's what +cover is for. Try it!
